This week a lot of the guys are off for GamesCom, so our Creative Director gives us some good info on subjects such as upcoming updates for audio, dynamic shadows, desync, as well as an update on the 0.61 milestone goals. DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can. Players can live through powerful events and emotions arising from the ever-evolving emergent gameplay.

For the rest of August, we will be running an ongoing hardcore event on the private DayZ Underground server. Be aware, they often password protect their server and have special whitelist weekends, so make sure you read up on DayZ Underground’s rules.
We may have some “handout tent” type missions again like we did recently on our public server, but there isn’t much to do on public these days so we will coast to 0.61.
Please see the rules for Hardcore Survival in the Field Manual. Also, since our last hardcore event took place with Ratnoe as our bugout location, we should choose a new bugout location by using Mumble comments according to the Hardcore Survival rules.

Ever wanted to try first person only servers but didn’t feel like spending time to find base gear?
The Hostile Environment Relief Organization has been collecting base starter kits and will be handing them out free during a secured trade event.
Rules for Receiving a Base Starter Kit
- Join our Mumble server. You must first download Mumble and have it installed.
- You will receive further instructions from our liaison for this event.
- Approach the trade area WITHOUT YOUR GUN IN HAND.
- If you have a weapon in your hand, YOU WILL BE ORDERED TO DISARM.
- If you AIM your weapon at any point, YOU WILL BE SHOT.
- Receive your starter kit and leave the area.
- Feel free to set it up on our server somewhere or log out and set it up later.
- WE WILL PROVIDE SECURITY, WE DO NOT NEED YOUR HELP.
- Unfortunately, your safety cannot be 100% guaranteed in DayZ, but we have preparations in place to help this go as smooth as possible.
Tiberius and gang had the idea to hand out “Base Startup Kits” with tents and gear to get a base going. Not many folks play 1PP these days, but handing out startup bases may allow our server population to grow as well as get more people playing 1PP.
So far, there are a bunch of civilian tents and car tents ready to go, so we will post to reddit for folks to come and ask us for a base starter kit. Depending on our community turnout, we may run this as a full fledged trading mission with security. If not, we may end up doing dead drops or some other lower risk method to deliver the kits.
Items needed: 4 sedan wheels, 4 hatchback wheels, civilian tents, barrels, shovels and hoes, seeds, axes
Hello all!
Fragnet has been quick to respond and wonderful in looking into our server downtime. I figured I would post an official news update since it is being asked on the forums.
Here’s the scoop with our server:
- 0.60 update caused a massive influx of server requests for DayZ servers to Fragnet (and I am assuming other hosts)
- Fragnet setup new servers to address the load and a new admin platform at the same time to give us more control over the server and persistence restoration
- Our server was moved to the new platform
- For some reason our server is crashing and the new platform is not restarting the server like it should, it might be related to 0.60 server side updates
- They are actively working to make it so the server restarts gracefully when it crashes instead of stopping
We can forcefully restart the server, but apparently the techs at our game server provider have more details available to them if we leave the server down so they can look into the cause and resolutions. Fragnet requested that I leave the server down and put in a ticket so they can work on a permanent solution. They usually respond within an hour, and sometimes minutes, of me putting in a support ticket (Vilayer used to be 48 hours).
Hopefully that helps everyone know what is going on, I have been on it as much as I could be while we had out of town visitors staying with us. Feel free to respond to this news article with any updates! Also let me know and I will keep on top of it!

The HERO Map has been updated for 0.60.
For now, the only option we have available is the satellite map instead of the topographical map due to my inability to extract the topographical map.
I know the satellite map is a little difficult to see in some areas, it is just a limitation we will have to live with until a topographical map can be extracted. I am able to provide very fine detail with the topographical map.
