In this week’s Status Report, Lead Producer Brian Hicks will let us in on the work currently being conducted on design, the engine, and the renderer as we have entered the new year. DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can. Players can live through powerful events and emotions arising from the ever-evolving emergent gameplay.
Our friends over at the Hoodrat Gaming community have been invited to participate in our next training drills as bandits.
We will cover several scenarios with both friendly and unfriendly contacts and appropriate ways to handle different contacts as HEROs.
This training will be in 2 parts. The first will be a dry fire exercise where our “bandits” will be using live rounds, but our training squad will not. “Bandits” will be shooting towards the squad without trying to hit them.
We will use the honor system to relay who gets killed over voice comms. If you are “killed” during the dry fire training, lay down and look at the ground. Also, do not ghost in voice communication after you have been “killed” but you may relay information up to your “death” to the rest of the squad.
If we have enough people from Hoodrat show up, the second part of the training will be a live fire squad vs squad scenario where each squad will shoot to kill. We may divide the squads to even out the groups depending on the turnout.
I have added 2 new sections to the field manual to address loot within our philosophy and ideals. Most of this we have done verbally up to this point so it shouldn’t be too new to anyone, but as we grow, it will be nice to have it on paper for reference.
Kicking off January with a bang by doing some dead drops as a community. We will start by assembling some care packages at base and then drop folks off along the coast to distribute the packages to different servers.
We have some protector cases at south base and some at north base, we will use the vehicles to move us all around.
The Roster has been pruned to reflect current active members.
Also, several members have had their squad positions removed due to the new requirements to hold squad positions. To help get our roster trained and able to hold squad positions, I have been in communication with other communities to perhaps run some training with them, more details to follow later.
I would like to kick off 2016 in an awesome way and have created a new mission type that will spread the word, grow our community, and help the public at the same time!
I’ve noticed we have tons of protector cases laying around our bases and now we have a use for them besides adding to base clutter.
During the month of January, I would like to see how many of these dead drops we can crank out as a community. We can keep track of this new mission type on HERO Legends by simply adding a screenshot of each dead drop you do!

If we have enough turnout, I will plan on recording for the next promotional video. Afterwards, we will do some training drills since our training was cut short last time.
If we don’t have enough people, we may just do some training then a high pop patrol.
I think we all really enjoyed these tactics training and drills. I am going to be making them a required part of Basic Combat Training. Hopefully we have enough time dedicated to training or maybe some volunteers to run this type of training once every 3 months or maybe even once a month.
I have included the video in the field manual so that people can watch the lecture at their leisure, then be prepared for the drills when we run them.
The third video was interrupted by actual gunfire from a hostile force. I slowed down the video and I think I shot 17x .22 Sporter rounds in 3 seconds at our attacker. I was clicking like mad on that semi-auto fire. I was pretty pissed that someone would shoot at our squad like that.
