MemberGlad to have you guys with us on the HERO* server! It’s always nice having other friendly players to play with, especially ones who know what they’re doing. I tend to gravitate toward the western side of the map as well (from Pavlovo all the way up to the NWAF), so I’m sure we’ll run into each other eventually. I just hop we recognize each other as friendly (or at least neutral) from a distance so no mistakes are made. =D

MemberHeli crash sites on persistence on servers are bugged so that they’re only worth looting early on Wednesdays (or unless you find one in a remote location someone probably hasn’t been to). Once the loot has been taken from heli crashes on persistence on servers, new loot won’t respawn. If you want to find heli crashes with loot at them, your best bet is to only go on persistence off servers, particularly when they’ve just reset. This is also a great way of finding gear quickly.

MemberYou can also change your name directly through your DayZ config files. If you can’t get it to work through the DayZ main screen, just add me on Steam and hit me up and I’ll walk you through the process.
Glad to have you as part of the group!

MemberI’m just going to leave my character’s journal entries here instead of posting them in the thread I made at the start of the event. My last journal entry for the character of Ethan Holt was in Ratnoe before the group I was with moved onto Berezino. I forgot to write up any other journal entries because so many of us were leaving notes for possible survivors making it to Berezino, and I ended up running all over the map hoping to run into people without leaving any notes about Ethan’s daily actions. My character is still alive near Berezino and I am probably going to start actively hunting bandits on that HoodRat server now that the event is over.

It is hard to believe that not too long ago I was enjoying a long overdue vacation in Kamyshovo. If you had told me back then that the world as I knew it was going to come to a crashing halt and what I would find myself tossed into was a world where the dead walked the earth once more, I would not have believed you. Now, however, it is impossible for me to deny what I have witnessed with my own eyes. Doing my best to avoid these inhuman monstrosities, I have made my way from the coastal region to Novy Sobor. It is my intention to continue on to the military base near Vybor in hopes of finding some vestige of order. If you are reading this, fellow survivor, remain ever-vigilant and keep yourself safe from these undead horrors.Yours in comradery,

My feet are sore and my soul is weary, but I have finally made it to the military base near Vybor. I was hoping to find members of the Chernarus Defense Force stationed at the base defending it from the hordes of undead roaming the area, providing a safe haven to survivors who found their way to the base from the surrounding towns. Instead all I found was more of the undead and no sign of my brothers and sisters in arms. There was gear though, so I replaced my civilian clothes with attire that would help me blend in and avoid the notice of the undead and the bandits who celebrate this new lawless time with hostile actions against their fellow Man. From the base I travelled to Vybor in search of any survivors; amazingly I met a Mr. Scarn who informed me that, to his knowledge, he was the only living soul left in Vybor. Together we travelled back to the base where I showed him some gear he might want to use now that there is no one left here to make use of it. We will be leaving the base shortly to head to the Northwest Airfield. Perhaps there we will find members of the Chernarussian Army or my fellow U.N. soldiers. Godspeed, survivor, and remember to stay vigilant for those who wish to do you harm.Yours in comradery,

With a friend by my side, I have finally made it to Ratnoe, a little town west of Severograd that I had never visited before today. Having travelled this route several times, this town was never anything more than a cluster of houses that I had passed through on my way to and from Severograd and Novodmitrovsk. Now that the world has gone to hell, however, Ratnoe is more akin to heaven than even the settlers who established it could have imagined. Mr. Scarn and I were met by four fellow survivors shortly after our arrival in the western side of the small town. They provided us with food and water and invited us to join them around the fire they had set up to keep warm and cook steaks of deer meat. As we shared our tales of survival in this apocalyptic landscape, I learned that their names were Derrel, Digital, Missbehaving, and Kittensoft. We all came from different places, but we were bound together by the common struggle we now faced to survive among the undead. I plan to remain in Ratnoe for the night before moving on to Severograd in search of others. Stay strong, fellow survivor, and know that there are still those out there that you can band together with to fight back against the Darkness spreading throughout these lands.Yours in comradery,

MemberOne thing to remember about the new BattlEye is that it wasn’t actively banning any and all cheaters on experimental, so it may not immediately do it now that .53 has been released on stable. If I recall correctly, what the new BattlEye was doing on experimental was collecting data on players who were using scripts or other cheats and storing it for a future ban-wave. I don’t know if that ban-wave has already come with the release of .53 on stable, but if it hasn’t then I suspect that they’re letting scripters think they’ve beaten the new BattlEye while they collect data on these players just like on the experimental so that they can ban a large group of them all at once.
Either way, I hope it works to an extent that it makes the game playable again without having to worry about joining a high pop server and getting almost instantly killed by some lame cheater using the SuperPunch script.
I think something to discuss as a group would be the use of armbands. What color are we going to choose for the group and are we going to use it in addition to some form of identifiable uniform or are we just going to be using the armbands to identify each other. If we choose to just use the armbands, then my concern is that there’s only a handful of colors available currently and no real unique design features to make the armband truly identifiable as HERO. This could lead to us possibly encountering someone at some point in our operations who is wearing the same color armband, which may cause confusion as we attempt to sort out through Mumble/in-game comms who this individual is and if they are one of us.

MemberBandit Hunt in Elektro
Last night a squad of us gathered on the hill north-northwest of Elektro in preparation for a patrol for bandits. We headed down into the city and began to patrol the central region around the church and near to the train tracks. While we patrolled through the streets, keeping an eye out on Sniper Hill and looking for possible bandits peeking from windows, Supernoob made his way from Kamyshovo to join us. With two loops completed, I stationed the assist team in the fire station while AgentScarn and I moved to the southwestern section of Elektro to extend our patrol. It was during this time that Supernoob entered the area and was shot by a bandit from an unknown location. AgentScarn and I returned to the rest of the squad before we all headed into the streets to make our way toward where Supernoob was murdered in hopes of finding his killer. Shortly afterward, Koo1aid was killed by who we assumed was the same bandit that had killed Supernoob. I instructed the remaining team to take cover while I doubled-back to Koo1aid’s body in hopes of getting eyes on his killer. It wasn’t long before I saw the bandit peeking around the corner of a building, but as I moved into position to take a shot at him, he managed to kill me with a single Mosin shot through a hail of bullets from my AKM. At this point the rest of the squad, consisting of Kittensoft, AgentScarn, and Shane, worked their way back down the street to where the bandit was last spotted. Kittensoft was then shot while she was behind a wall where there was no vantage points for someone to shoot at her. It wasn’t long before Shane was confronted by the bandit; they traded shots with one another with Shane falling unconscious. AgentScarn closed in on Shane’s position and discovered that the bandit was dead, but a second later the body disappeared and the individual was back, miraculously wearing their ruined gear. AgentScarn shot and killed him, at which point the body again disappeared. When the bandit returned for a second time in the same ruined gear and was once again shot dead, it was determined that they were a hacker and we all logged out before they could once more return and possibly kill our last two surviving squad members.
We all managed to get respawns near Elektro, so on a low-pop server we converged on the center of town to regroup to transition the operation from a bandit hunt to a looting mission. While we were exploring Elektro, an ax-wielding bandit ran up to Supernoob and attempted to hack him to death. Thankfully most of us were grouped together and Koo1aid was able to kill this lightly-armed bandit before he could do any more damage to Supernoob or anyone else in the group. The two non-affiliated players on the server left not long after that, so with all of us together, we headed out of Elektro for a trip up to the Vybor military base.

MemberI guess that means I should probably start making use of all of my gear before next Wednesday. Definitely looking forward to .53 and having less hackers to deal with.

MemberSpawning Fresh on a Private Hive
Kittensoft and I decided to try out the UN / Zap private hive in order to get kitted characters that could be played on high-population first-person servers. My initial spawn was near Nizhnoye, while hers was north of Rify. We intended to meet up north of Berezino, but just as she was reaching the destination, she was met by an individual with a shotgun who ordered her to put her hands up. I was still in the northernmost part of Berezino heading her way in hopes of interrupting this encounter when the bandit shot her in the face, killing her. She respawned east of Elektro. While she headed along the coast toward Kamyshovo and eventually Solnichniy, I proceeded to search the woods and area north of Berezino for the bandit who had killed her. After a while of searching and finding no one, I turned around and began heading down the coast to once again meet up with Kittensoft. As she travelled along the coast, she paused to loot the houses east of the Three Valleys and encountered another player. They ran into each other while coming from different directions around a corner of wall. Kittensoft turned and ran for cover, but instead of letting her go and continuing on his way, the other player took a shot at her with his shotgun and then gave chase. This led to a lengthy run for Kittensoft as she headed north to meet up with me. She passed Solnichniy as I passed the Factory and we met in the area between the two locations. Looking back down the coast where she had just come from, we soon spotted the bandit still chasing after her. She was armed with a Repeater, while I only had a farming hoe. Despite my disadvantage, I told Kittensoft to move evasively and stay out of his line of fire while I moved along the coast to flank the bandit. While he was fixated on trying to kill her, I ran at him from the side and managed to get two hits on him with my farming hoe before he realized I wasn’t a zombie. At this point he began running around rather wildly trying to keep distance between himself and I and the aggro’d zombies. I wasn’t able to get another strike on him, but I kept him on the move while Kittensoft (who had gotten shot once as she moved away from him and suffered a broken leg) crawled toward us. Eventually I was able to chase the bandit toward Kittensoft, who opened fire and killed him. Afterward the server restarted, but we were able to rejoin and bandage and splint our wounds before moving on to meet up with another friend who had joined the server to play with us.

MemberGeneral Looting: Vybor Military Base
Deceiver, Kittensoft, and I were looking for gear in the prison at the Vybor military base where there was a loot explosion when another player walked up to the front doors, which Kittensoft had locked. Seeing his arm come through the door, we began to attempt to communicate with the individual to let them know that we were friendly so long as he kept his weapon lowered and responded to us. There was no voice communication, but he typed in chat asking us not to kill his character. Despite his requests for us not to kill him, he unlocked the doors to the prison and then repeatedly opened them when we closed them. Deceiver moved into a position within the jail cell that allowed him to get eyes on the other player. During this time, the other player had typed in chat that he had no ammo in his gun, but Deceiver alerted us to the fact that this player was peeking around the corner of the prison and aiming his weapon toward the front doors. It was then deemed that the player intended to be hostile and we began acting accordingly. Deceiver took the active role of engaging the other player while I moved into the jail cell to take up his position and keep an eye on the last known position of the bandit. Deceiver ran out of the front doors and around the prison in an attempt to get behind the bandit, but discovered he wasn’t there when he arrived. As he turned to retrace his steps back toward the front of the prison, the bandit appeared at the corner Deceiver was heading toward and opened fire. Deceiver returned fire and managed to kill the bandit, all the while avoiding the hail of bullets fired at him. Kittensoft and I joined him at the body. We looted what was worthwhile and then left the base before logging out of the server.

MemberI had that problem and fixed it by lighting three fires and sitting between them for approximately 5 – 10 minutes. I have heard others say that the problem was fixed for them in the same manner, though they put the time at 15 minutes. If you have already tried that and have not seen improvement, then hopefully the devs are working on dealing with that in .53 (it has been addressed on feedback.dayzgame.com, so they at least know about it).

MemberHey!
My name is Chris. I’m 29 and currently live in Indiana. My experience with PC gaming is somewhat limited. I played Diablo (I and II), Age of Empires (I and II), and Age of Mythology when I was younger before moving on to console games. I recently returned to PC gaming when I saw YouTube videos of the ArmA 2: DayZ Mod and DayZ Standalone and eventually ended up buying the game myself. Since my first time signing on, I have enjoyed nearly every minute of actually playing the game. So far I have about 180 hours of in-game time. My in-game tag used to be McNugget, but I have since changed it to GOOD*Gray Fox since meeting up with other HEROs and GOOD Deputies. My Steam ID is just Gray Fox.
My desire to join this group stems from the fact that mostly all of my encounters with other players in DayZ have been violent (predominantly people trying to KoS). I briefly found a budding group of heroes through the DayZ LFG subreddit, but one of those individuals ended up turning on three of us and killing us all while pretending that there was another player shooting at us. Since then, that group of heroes has all but disbanded and I have only remained in contact with the three other people I feel I can trust (one of them being Kittensoft, another GOOD*Deputy and aspiring member of HERO). Kittensoft is actually the one who found the group’s listing on the DayZ LFG subreddit, though I had seen the HERO* tags in posts on the Reddit Rescue Force subreddit before she brought this group’s website to my attention. Immediately upon reading the HEROs Oath, I felt that I had found a solid group of players that shared principles similar to my own that I could be a part of. I am currently being sponsored by HERO*Derrel and look forward to eventually taking the HEROs Oath and becoming a full-fledged member of HERO.
Happy gaming!
