On Feb 20 I led a large group into Elektro on a bandit hunt. Despite moving through many full servers we never encountered any real bandit activity. We were able to help many survivors, at least 3. Unfortunately one contact decided to casually walk up and punch me in the face, causing the death of him and his friend.

I’m interested to hear feedback on this as well. Dealing with an extra movement speed takes some getting used too. Idk how everyone else has their keybindings set up, but I have sprint set up as double-tap ‘w’, and I can toggle jog/walk with ‘ctrl’. This means that I can go directly from walking to sprinting, which helps reacting to contact. Going from walking to jogging or vice-versa takes one hit of the ‘ctrl’ key.

So far there have been very few skiddie sightings compared to 0.52. I haven’t seen any since they released 0.53.

I’m glad you guys are having nice weather. Enjoy it while you can.

Here’s hoping BattleEye lives up to the hype.

@GrayFox this is a perfect example on why we are so strict about looting on missions. Good work by ninja and his friends.

This is not a new mission type but a variation I would like to try. There are three movement speeds in DayZ: walking, jogging, and running. So far most of our squad movement during missions is at the jogging pace.

I would like to experiment with conducting patrol missions at the walking pace. The point of a patrol mission is to make contact with other survivors and offer support as necessary. The benefits of jogging during a patrol are:
    – Squad members are more difficult targets because they are moving more quickly
    The benefits of walking are:
    – Squad members develop no fatigue while walking and have steadier aim after contact
    – Squad members can identify threats more easily when moving at a slower pace (situational awareness)
    – Squad exudes confidence and control

    The drawbacks of jogging:
    – Squad members quickly become fatigued and aim is compromised in a firefight
    – Squad members cannot comprehensively scan sectors, especially buildings

    The drawbacks of walking:
    – Walking targets are easier to hit than jogging targets.

So walking patrols increase the chance of a squad member being killed on sight, but also increase the effectiveness of the squad at preventing or responding to such an incident. Therefore walking patrols may be preferred for large groups while jogging is preferred for small ones.

A large group of HEROs set up a patrol mission in Elektro. Unfortunately immediately after logging into a medium pop server one of our squad encountered a hacker. We logged into another high pop to find that about half of our squad was dead and Kasper was immediately fired on by two players. Kasper managed to kill both. One of the players returned to his body within 30 seconds and was killed again. Within another 30 seconds he was back again and began hacking and picking off the remaining members of the squad. A few were able to log out and survive.

While hanging around in Cherno, BloodyHeap met a couple of lightly geared players and provided them with a weapon and ammo. MissBehaving and kittensoft came under attack by some bandits and were able to lead them towards the rest of the squad where two were killed and the remaining two fled. Shortly after BloodyHeap was able to kill a freshspawn chasing GrayFox as he entered Cherno. Some of the action was captured by derrel and BloodyHeap.

After being killed at Green Mountain I spawned in Elektro and was trying to make my way back to GrayFox and kittensoft. I startled some guy as I ran past but instead of letting me go he decided he wanted a fight.

I think that captures our attitude towards survivors pretty well. I agree that reciting it would be a little much, but even in bandit hunts or at airfields we stick to those rules.

Here is a video from my perspective of the recent Berezino Bandit Hunt. Unfortunately my recording software wasn’t configured correctly and my voice (and mechanical keyboard) is louder than everything else. The raw footage was an hour long but I cut it down to 20 minutes to keep it interesting. Let me know what you think! It’s my first YouTube video.

First thought: all of our campsites are pretty great.
Second thought: somebody spent 30 minutes swimming to the bottom right corner of the map.

    Reddit Rescue Force Missions
Today we had a big group of HEROs take part in a couple of RRF missions. We were able to help two survivors with broken legs, one at Rify and another near Severograd. A third mission was aborted when the patient failed to make contact at the arranged meeting point. Links to the RRF missions are here and here.
