Your primary objectives should be:
1. You are heavily armored and also carry the big guns and lots of ammo, so be prepared to use them. Keep stacks of ammo in separate compartments to prevent ruining all of your ammo should you take damage. Do not hesitate to offer flanking an entrenched enemy for the squad. If the Leader agrees, you should carefully flank a hostile position while the squad provides suppressive fire. Also, do not hesitate to hold position when the Leader calls a fallback or tactical retreat order to regroup during a hostile encounter. As an Assist, your goal is to be the primary cause of hostile casualties. You should be prepared to determine and engage hostile contacts to protect the squad without waiting for an order from the Leader.
2. You should maintain close perimeter security by hiding behind cover when the squad stops and watch towards the rear of the squad. Secure buildings by looking through doors and windows and closing doors when the squad passes by buildings. Lock doors for high risk buildings such as police and military buildings. Be on the lookout for organized hostiles flanking your squad’s position. Alert your squad immediately to perimeter activity so that the Leader can decide the squad’s action. If the Leader orders you to “provide security for an unknown survivor” or “protect them”, this usually means “keep an eye on them while a perimeter is secured”. Due to the nature of video game respawn mechanics, unknown survivors may turn hostile without notice because they think it is fun and can just respawn.
3. You are the best equipped squad member to handle moving squad assets and provide security for separated squad members, so the squad will depend on you. (Assist Medic) Should the Medic run out of supplies while assisting a fallen squad member during a hostile encounter, the Medic will need your help to collect required medical supplies from squad members and deliver them to the Medic. (Assist Recon) Once a Recon fires upon hostile targets, the Recon’s position will be exposed. Hostile forces may move to overwhelm the Recon. Ask if the Recon requires assistance and if the Leader agrees, move quickly to assist the Recon.
