Uniforms have historically served several purposes within organizations: they can boost morale among members of the squad, they make it easier to tell friend from foe, and they can give a certain psychological impression on others.
The official colors of the Hostile Environment Relief Organization are blue with a yellow armband.
Face coverings include any masks or items that obscure the nose, mouth, and shape of the face. Face coverings DO NOT include sunglasses or transparent helmet visors. The psychological impact of hiding one’s face is almost always negative intimidation. We want to avoid negative intimidation towards other survivors.

Anything less than a full Class A uniform shall be considered Class B. Here are some examples of a Class B HERO uniform:

Community members should always strive to wear the Class A uniform, however due to uniform availability or personal preference, the Class B uniform may be the only option available.
The Class B uniform should contain as much blue as possible to stand out from the average green, brown, and black combinations worn by other survivors and squads. Think “gang colors” when deciding how much blue to wear. The more blue you wear, the less likely you are going to be shot by one of your well trained squad mates.
Recon are exempt from HERO uniform requirements while performing their duties as a Recon squad member. This exemption applies only to squad members trained in the Recon position and holding such position on our roster. Temporary Recons or squad members providing temporary overwatch should wear the standard uniform.
It is the Recon’s job to remain hidden and any clothing that can help the Recon provide overwatch while remaining undetected is allowed, including but not limited to: facial coverings, ghillie suits, and clothing colored to camouflage with the environment.
If a Recon chooses to wear non-uniform clothing, the Recon MUST carry a uniform to change into when regrouping with the squad during movements. Recons are free to choose their own camouflage, but be warned that any non uniform clothing found in the base will likely be thrown away. It is not recommended to collect camouflage clothing for Recons because most will have their own camouflage preference. Not all camouflage is green, urban environments or sandy colored backdrops may require different colors, so it is up to the Recon to determine their own camouflage colored clothing.
