KeymasterHere are the steps to becoming a HERO:
- Register for our website. You may create a new account or use Steam to login to our website.
- Join our Mumble server. When you first join Mumble, you will be in a jailed channel called “The Wasteland”. Please be patient and someone will come in and talk to you.
- Do not ask to join. Just play with us. Not everyone will make it into the organization. Out of those that make it in, not everyone will make it to the level of HERO*. We generally do not reach out and ask individual people to join us, you must be willing to make the effort to follow our path.
- Complete our Personality Assessment. This will give us an idea of your play style and how you handle situations. You must complete the assessment as well as a verbal interview in Mumble before being considered as a new recruit able to wear the GOOD* tag.
- Current HEROs will test survivors before deputizing them into the organization. This process is thorough and will ensure that our community members are quality choices for the hero play style.
- Reply to this thread with your story. Having more information about you will help us determine if you are a good fit for our organization and the hero play style in general.
If you are new to our organization and would like to be deputized, here is an additional place where you can tell us who you are and why you think you would be a good fit.

ParticipantHello,
My name is Red. I’m 16 from VT, (Small northern state many might call mini Canada) I do not have that many hours on DayZ, yet have put a lot of time into watching it. I played quite a bit of the mod and that is where a large amount of my experience is from. Always was looking for people that shared common goals in DayZ. I hope that this is a chance for my too play with a solid good group of the people in this community.-Regards,
Red

ParticipantHi Everybody,
I’m 32 and currently living in Ohio. I started out in PC gaming with games like Doom, X-Wing and a shareware copy of Descent. I’m currently looking a joysticks now that I saw Tie Fighter and X-wing come out on GOG.
DayZ is one of the best games I have played to date. A quick story to explain. The first time I shot at somebody unprovoked, I felt terrible. The same person was friendly to me earlier but I let the boredom of being a lone wolf get to me. I let them kill me after that because I felt like I deserved it. I felt guilty about that for days. It is amazing to me that a game can do that to somebody.
Any way, I read the oath is definitely the play style I’m looking for so I look forward to being able to play with the group.

ParticipantHi,
My name is Agent Scarn, I’ve been watching Dayz vids since the arma 2 mod and have been watching standalone videos as well. I had played the mod a little bit before deciding to buy the standalone. Almost everyone i’ve encountered in this game is hostile and instead of just banding together to have some fun they like to kill you. I want to help those who have been in the same situations i’ve found myself in and show them that not everyones a douche, and maybe they’ll turn around and lend a helping hand to someone else.January 2, 2015 at 14:53 #648digitalstimulus

MemberHey!
My name is Scott, through you’ll find my in-game tag to be GOOD*Sam. I’m 24 years old and based out of Texas. I’ve been lurking DayZ streams since before standalone was released, but only recently purchased the game. I’ve probably got ~30 hours of game time in so far, but I’m learning very quickly that it can be very difficult to find good people. Of the ~35 players I’ve encountered, only 4 of them have been friendly.
I don’t like the lone wolf play style, I’m not the bandit type, and I heavily prefer playing with other friendly players. It’s just more fun! I found you guys through Fairlight_Excalibur’s stream last night and asked him to share the website you provided him when he encountered you all. I’m not super active just yet, but I love DayZ and I’m hoping to make a few friends and improve my experience with the game. HERO seemed like a good fit. I’ll be dropping in to the Mumble soon and hope to have the chance to meet you all!
Thanks!

January 11, 2015 at 04:10 #691Grunt
ParticipantHi,
My name is Grunt and I’m from northwest Indiana. I’m 32 years old and I’ve been a gamer since I could hold a controller. I first heard of DayZ when someone mentioned it on TeamSpeak back when I played EVE Online. Having owned ARMA 2 already I decided to give it a try. Now I’m at 750 hours between the mod and standalone! In the interest of full disclosure I should mention that I’m a former bandit. I hope that does not disqualify me for potential membership in HERO. I didn’t torture people, mostly just KoS, but I have since changed my ways. I find the hero/friendly playstyle is more to my liking and much more rewarding than shooting everything that moves.
What interests me most about HERO besides the friendly/hero playstyle is the military-esque theme and tactical focus. I used to run a clan with similar aspirations, but have since decided I’d rather be an indian than a chief. We primarily did loot runs at military bases and then cleared out either Elektro or Berezino and held it as long as we could. I even made THIS map of Berezino to help coordinate our assault.
I plan to be on mumble in the next day or two and look forward to playing with you guys!

KeymasterHello Grunt,
Welcome to the community! Hope to see you on Mumble.

MemberHey!
My name is Chris. I’m 29 and currently live in Indiana. My experience with PC gaming is somewhat limited. I played Diablo (I and II), Age of Empires (I and II), and Age of Mythology when I was younger before moving on to console games. I recently returned to PC gaming when I saw YouTube videos of the ArmA 2: DayZ Mod and DayZ Standalone and eventually ended up buying the game myself. Since my first time signing on, I have enjoyed nearly every minute of actually playing the game. So far I have about 180 hours of in-game time. My in-game tag used to be McNugget, but I have since changed it to GOOD*Gray Fox since meeting up with other HEROs and GOOD Deputies. My Steam ID is just Gray Fox.
My desire to join this group stems from the fact that mostly all of my encounters with other players in DayZ have been violent (predominantly people trying to KoS). I briefly found a budding group of heroes through the DayZ LFG subreddit, but one of those individuals ended up turning on three of us and killing us all while pretending that there was another player shooting at us. Since then, that group of heroes has all but disbanded and I have only remained in contact with the three other people I feel I can trust (one of them being Kittensoft, another GOOD*Deputy and aspiring member of HERO). Kittensoft is actually the one who found the group’s listing on the DayZ LFG subreddit, though I had seen the HERO* tags in posts on the Reddit Rescue Force subreddit before she brought this group’s website to my attention. Immediately upon reading the HEROs Oath, I felt that I had found a solid group of players that shared principles similar to my own that I could be a part of. I am currently being sponsored by HERO*Derrel and look forward to eventually taking the HEROs Oath and becoming a full-fledged member of HERO.
Happy gaming!
Gray FoxJanuary 15, 2015 at 13:52 #759kittensoft
MemberI’m late to the game with posting here, but I wanted to give a little introduction anyway for those who have not yet “met” me through the group. My name is Kittensoft in game, but my actual name is Nicole (or Niki) so please feel free to call me by any of those three names. I am from New England originally, but am currently living in Indiana, and I’m 27 years old. I have been playing mostly console games for a while now, but DayZ SA is the first PC game I’ve really played besides Guild Wars back in the day. I discovered DayZ SA after randomly coming across some Streamed videos of people playing it, and the mod, on Reddit. Before finding this group, most of time in game was spent avoiding other players because most interactions were simply KoS situations, with me being the one to lose out. I did join another aspiring hero group before joining up here, but one of our members ended up killing us while pretending like it was someone else shooting at us when there was actually no one else present. It was definitely the kind of experience that can leave you jaded in this game, but I’m still determined to do my part of counterbalancing all of the indiscriminate violence by playing a hero role. Now I don’t worry about being betrayed and have had some serious fun in just a short amount of time. I’m looking forward to many more bandit hunts and interesting situations with trying to help out fresh spawns/friendlies.
