KeymasterMissbehaving and I have been the advertising and propaganda machine for HERO from the beginning and as of late we haven’t really had the motivation to log into DayZ or any online multiplayer games for that matter. Many of you may have felt this stagnation with the group, and I just wanted to say that there is still has focus and ambition from me, just not motivation. This is mostly because of our internet situation.
If you all are still having fun and getting enjoyable experiences out of the group, then keep on having fun. I hope that we are able to rejoin you all more frequently soon. We have been frustrated so many times with getting online, I just wanted to share what it’s like to log into online multiplayer games for us.
For most of you it’s probably something like:
- Open DayZ
- Play!
For us this is the process:
- Check phone battery because tethering uses power faster than can be charged, if low battery we’re not playing
- Date and time of day matters. Miss may need her phone for calls/messaging and I may need mine for work.
- Check weather, snow/rain means worse cell phone signal
- Disable home internet connection
- Tether phone and disable phone Wifi
- Check Speedtest/Pingtest to see if we actually have a decent connection, if not we’re not playing
- Open DayZ
- Play!
This process is for all multiplayer games we miss including DayZ, Battlefield 3, Team Fortress 2, etc. The process “works” and we’re paying for basically 3 internet connections to be able to play (home + 2 phone “unlimited” tethering plans). This is how it has been pretty much since the beginning of the group for us, which I think has finally worn out our patience and willingness to go through the process to play online very often.
The good news is that we may be getting brand new fiber optic lines run from Comcast in our neighborhood within 3-6 months. Miss and I have been planning and preparing to move to a different place because of our internet situation regardless of the “proposed new internet”. At this point we will believe it when we see it.
So what does all this mean for HERO? Well, I am not the group and don’t pretend to be the entire group, however 99% of you are probably here because you were screened and promised a specific play style and mission from me personally. I can only hope that our HEROs and GOOD folks are helping to deliver the experience you sought out from DayZ when you came to us. I haven’t seen many missions posted and much of this could be due to the current alpha state of DayZ as I have noticed a few core players are sort of taking a break.
Luckily the foundation has been laid already with our Field Manual and lots of experience that at any time, any member of our community should be able to carry the torch forward until we are able to come back in and grow the community more. Whether you are HERO or GOOD, don’t be afraid to post missions and try stuff out. Missbehaving and I will be back in full force one day to help give this community a proper shove in the direction that was originally intended. It would be nice to be a recognized force for good in the DayZ community, but the hard work to make that happen is still ahead of us.

ParticipantIt shows how much you guys like DayZ that you’ve played it so regularly with your connection problems. I would’ve rage quit the internet long ago if I was in your situation 🙂
I’ve been taking a break from DayZ myself. I think I’m waiting for persistence to work before I get back into it. The promise of a persistent world has been hovering just out of reach for many months now, and I think I got tired of losing stuff so often.

MemberEvery group and organization has its low and high periods, its natural, I’ve been in a lot of groups and clans, and most of them just fade away overtime, but HERO already has a solid base, and I’m sure that it will be around for long…
I’m planning to get a little more active in the next weeks, using the GOOD tag, helping fresh spawns and stuff, maybe some more people show interest in playing with us… lets see :)!

KeymasterYep, I’ve been organizing and running events for years and know that people will come and go, groups will come and go, it’s a natural cycle if you have been in organizations long enough.
I just wanted everyone to be aware that the towel has NOT been thrown in with HERO, the grown is just stagnant.

KeymasterWoohoo, we have just received a new internet service!
Let’s hope that Miss and I can maintain stable connections and get some multiplayer action going again!
