ParticipantI ran home for lunch just to download the update as to reduce my wait time at home after work. I, while not the only one, am pretty excited about the potential of .53; the new places and equip and mostly the ban-hammer beating on the script-kiddies.
I figured this thread might be a nice start to discuss the changes.

ParticipantHere’s hoping BattleEye lives up to the hype.

MemberOne thing to remember about the new BattlEye is that it wasn’t actively banning any and all cheaters on experimental, so it may not immediately do it now that .53 has been released on stable. If I recall correctly, what the new BattlEye was doing on experimental was collecting data on players who were using scripts or other cheats and storing it for a future ban-wave. I don’t know if that ban-wave has already come with the release of .53 on stable, but if it hasn’t then I suspect that they’re letting scripters think they’ve beaten the new BattlEye while they collect data on these players just like on the experimental so that they can ban a large group of them all at once.
Either way, I hope it works to an extent that it makes the game playable again without having to worry about joining a high pop server and getting almost instantly killed by some lame cheater using the SuperPunch script.
I think something to discuss as a group would be the use of armbands. What color are we going to choose for the group and are we going to use it in addition to some form of identifiable uniform or are we just going to be using the armbands to identify each other. If we choose to just use the armbands, then my concern is that there’s only a handful of colors available currently and no real unique design features to make the armband truly identifiable as HERO. This could lead to us possibly encountering someone at some point in our operations who is wearing the same color armband, which may cause confusion as we attempt to sort out through Mumble/in-game comms who this individual is and if they are one of us.

ParticipantAgreed we should use armbands when on a mission and some sort of unique uniform. I don’t think we should get to strict about it though as I enjoy having a different look on occasion and wouldn’t want to restrict anybody’s preferences. It could be a hat or jacket or maybe one other item in addition to the armband that we try to standardize.

ParticipantYea. Armbands. AND hats?? I think that combo should take care of most issues…we could go with the digital classic, the cowboy hat, for all. Lol.
Do we know what the color options will be? I thought they were crafted from torn raincoats? If true, I’d say yellow for people on close contact duties, but no armbands/hats for recon just because of the scope of their duties include remaining unseen.
Thoughts, or ideas?February 5, 2015 at 10:08 #1015digitalstimulus
KeymasterI would think Recon shouldn’t need to wear armbands, depending on the mission. I think this could be a Leader call at the beginning of missions. Close Recons we would probably want armbands, far Recons, probably not.
If we get too strict on uniform requirements, we will end up needing to have a more structured training and requirements to teach people how to identify and move when everyone is together which I think can take away from our current casual style.
I personally would prefer if everyone had their own unique headgear and clothing and stick with just armbands. I kind of like the “Wild West” approach where people are able to express their own uniqueness. It also allows us to more easily form micro-squads and stick close together because we can identify each other within the group quickly.
Hell, I can quickly think of gear people usually wear to identify themselves off the top of my head:
Digital – Cowboy hat and aviator glasses
Agent Scarn/Derrel – knit hat of some sort
Kasper – Biggest backpack in the group and a ballistic helmet
Missbehaving – black and balaclava
Shady – Ushanka

ParticipantApparently they bumped it down to 10. Still though, that is pretty sweet.

ParticipantWell since we all need to identify clothing patterns, I guess I’ll be the guy that wears no pants…lol
